about

This was the first time that we played Glasgow. It is one of those shows that was etched in Algiers lore, talked about in various circles and in the van for years after the fact. One of those shows that years later everyone claims they were at. The Hug & Pint is tiny, 92 capacity if memory serves correct, down narrow stairs in the small snug basement.

It was one of those typical Glaswegian November nights as well, drizzling and cold. One couldn't get warm no matter how close you got to the heater and to make matters worse, the green room doubled as the beer cooler. But the show was sold out and as soon as everyone packed in, it was hot and steamy and everyone was stripping off layers of clothes. the crowd was literally on top of the band, I recall having to set up in a somewhat strange configuration. It's hard to hear on this recording, as this is actually a board mix coming straight from the mics on the amps, but the crowd was loud and rawkous.

This was also the first and one of the only times that we performed In Parallax live. We close with it here and it sounds great. This is still our best Glasgow show. It was truly a special night.

about

Algiers Atlanta, Georgia

Algiers is a band of musicians born in Atlanta, Georgia, the rotten hub of the Ol’ American South, where W.E.B. Dubois once saw a riot goin’ on, and where the hell and highwater swirls ‘round to the knees.
