about

On an uncharacteristically chilly rainy evening in Southern California, we loaded upstairs into the new North Hollywood Knitting Factory. This was one of the first Shook dates to not feature Dante Foley on a second drum set. They were on loan from Mourning [A] BLKstar and after doing the entire European run with us, had to return for more MAB dates. This was also the 2nd of two consecutive shows that Patrick Shirioshi’s Oort Smog duo (also featuring Mark Kimbrell on drums) opened. We asked Patrick to join us on a couple of songs from Shook and he sat in on a 3rd, a free improvised version of There Is No Year with an extended intro. Sydney’s phenomenal Party Dozen played in-between our two sets, meaning the night featured a rare double billing of drum and sax duos.

about

Algiers Atlanta, Georgia

Algiers is a band of musicians born in Atlanta, Georgia, the rotten hub of the Ol’ American South, where W.E.B. Dubois once saw a riot goin’ on, and where the hell and highwater swirls ‘round to the knees.
