The Right To Defend (King Khan collab)

about

Here's an interesting one, long since forgotten about.

Back in early 2016 King Khan reached out to us about collaborating. He had come across 'Blood' and was a fan and wanted to immediately jump into work. We tried to explain to him that we had a few mutual friends, but he did not seem interested. He had just finished scoring a film and was planning a tour to promote and screen it and wanted us to be his backing band. He came up with the idea of doing a single together and sent music over that he wanted us to cover. Franklin quickly worked up this version that was similar to KK's sketch, but I think Khan wanted us to do something a bit more sample-oriented/men's ensemble in the vein of 'Blood'.

We exchanged a few more emails but ultimately the tour didn't happen and KK disappeared as quickly as he had appeared. We were supposed to meet up at some point the next time we were in Berlin but that was 5 years ago and we haven't crossed paths again.

Above is Franklin's demo for King Khan's song. Perhaps it's worth reaching back out to KK to reengage on future collaboration.

about

Algiers Atlanta, Georgia

Algiers is a band of musicians born in Atlanta, Georgia, the rotten hub of the Ol’ American South, where W.E.B. Dubois once saw a riot goin’ on, and where the hell and highwater swirls ‘round to the knees.
