about

This recording documents one of the most memorable and freeing shows in the band's 5 years of performing together. After a series of negative concert reviews from the previous few nights in the German music press, accusing the band of not being political enough on stage and criticizing their presence, Algiers took the stage in Frankfurt particularly focused and combative. The pinnacle of the set was a one-off performance of 2019's Can The Sub_Bass Speak? A moment that featured singer, Franklin James Fisher, furiously reciting reviews back at the shocked audience while, Tristan Griffin, simultaneously translates line for line into German over the top of free jazz horn. Shortly after, the onstage electronics literally melted down as the set devolved into a frenzied avant-garde piano/sax/drum odyssey. This is Algiers at its most confrontational and at times its most chaotic. A testament to a band that, for at least one night, was untouchable on stage.

about

Algiers Atlanta, Georgia

Algiers is a band of musicians born in Atlanta, Georgia, the rotten hub of the Ol’ American South, where W.E.B. Dubois once saw a riot goin’ on, and where the hell and highwater swirls ‘round to the knees.
